So recently I have been stuck in a bit of a rut and it’s got me thinking of the little things I can do every day to make myself feel a little better. Don’t get me wrong, I do not practice these things every day because hey, I’m only human. I have bad days and I have good days just like the next person. However, these are the little things I’m working on to make every day a little bit happier. So if you, like me, want to start living a happier life then have a read of these small steps to do every single day.
Wake up earlier every day
Starting your day earlier allows you to have some time for yourself before starting your day. You might choose work out, to watch the sun rise, to cook yourself a lovely breakfast or to simply just sit with your thoughts before your day begins. Personally, I love to get up and go to the gym. This allows me to clear my mind and puts me in a better mood for the rest of the day.
Find time in your day to read a book
Whether it’s a book about crime, a romantic novel or a good old fashioned self help book, find a book you love and make time to read it. Whether that be when you first get up, just before you go to bed, on the bus or even during your lunch break.
Try cut out junk food from your diet
Ok so don’t judge me, this is one I still struggle with. You don’t need to tell me that junk food cravings are literally the devil because trust me, I know! Try your best to cut out crisps, chocolate, sweets and other processed foods from your diet. Even if you cut out one thing at a time, you will see the difference in your body. When you get cravings for these foods just remember why you’re doing this and power through it. If you’re craving something sugary, try having some fruit or a smoothie. Do your best to substitute these bad foods for a healthier alternative.
BUT, don’t be afraid to treat yourself
Girl, if you crave that burger, have that damn burger. It’s all about eating in moderation. If you know you’re going out for dinner in the evening, make sure you eat healthy during the day and go crazy. As cliche as it is, you only live once so allow yourself to have the foods you love and enjoy, just eat them in moderation.
Spend more time outdoors
Get outside, whether it be for a walk, run or even just sitting outside in your favourite café. Get some fresh air circulating round your body and watch the world go by. I find just simply going for a walk down the road really helps clear my head and puts me in such a positive mood.
Buy a pretty diary or notebook
I don’t know about you, but having a pretty diary where I write down all my thoughts, things to do and appointments to attend, makes me feel like I’ve really got my life together (even if I totally haven’t). Just write down everything that pops into your head, it’ll make you feel more organised and will help put your mind at ease knowing that you’re not going to forget anything.
Have a long hot shower, put your favourite face mask on, paint your nails, just do something each day to make yourself feel a little bit better.
Remember that not every day is perfect
If you’re having a bad day, just remember that it won’t last forever. Not every day is perfect and everyone has a bad day every once in a while. Just remind yourself that there are so many beautiful things in life to be happy about and most of them you haven’t even discovered yet. Tomorrow is a new day with new opportunities. Just pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start again.
